New Entrance/Elevator Construction Project: We're about to begin the next phase of our plans to modernize the facilities here at Bay View. We expect to begin construction by the beginning of October on a new main entrance and elevator in the northeast corner of Mercy Hall, diagonally across from the entrance to the Athletic/Wellness Center. Strategically located in proximity to the parking area, this will provide us with a permanent, accessible entrance to Mercy Hall for our students, faculty and visitors, particularly for special events.
The entrance will include a glass vestibule at ground level that will lead to the elevator lobby and reception area. From there the elevator will provide service to all four floors of the building, while a stairway will also lead down to the auditorium level. The existing elevator will be permanently disabled as part of this project, which carries a total budget of $775,000, including soft costs.
The project was designed by architects from The Robinson Green Beretta Corporation of Providence and the contractor will be New England Construction of East Providence. Both firms were selected following a competitive bidding and interview process. The project team, including the architects, contractor and Bay View administration, are meeting to develop a logistics plan to manage the traffic flow and safety of all concerned. As the need arises we will be sure to keep you informed of any necessary changes to our parking requirements. We expect the project to be completed by the end of January but in the meantime, please pardon our appearance, dust and noise as we continue with our renovation efforts.

We’re pleased to announce that construction is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 30th. The contractors will begin in the Auditorium Annex, with the erection of a temporary wall and dust barrier, to be followed by exterior excavation work the full width of Mercy Hall, extending to the small grassy hill bordering the parking lot. The school buses will now be asked to queue up in the main parking lot rather than on the driveway behind Mercy Hall and the handicap parking spaces will be temporarily relocated to the front of the Athletic/Wellness Center. A temporary pedestrian walkway will be constructed along the driveway leading into the parking lot to provide safe passage for students and faculty. We ask that everyone please respect the various barriers that will be erected to keep passersby from the worksite in an effort to ensure the safety of all.
