The Christine Kavanagh Summer Theatre Camp was a huge success this year. A total of 14 girls attended with 7 of them from other schools. Under the direction of Ms. Stephanie Smith '02, the students engaged in singing, dancing, acting, and craft-making.
The theme was "A Multicultural Party!" where students learned about a variety of cultures.
During week one, the students were taught by Ms. Smith and learned about African and Italian traditions. They made shekere instruments and Sicilian tambourines and learned authentic songs and dances.
The second week was taught by Ms. Smith and Ms. Kerrin Nagle '03. The girls learned about Spain and Japan through the celebration of a Japanese Tea Ceremony and the tradional steps of a Flamenco dance.
The third and final week of camp was directed toward Russia and the United States, under the instruction of Ms. Smith and Ms. Nancy Anastadis '04. A medley of songs from Fiddler on the Roof kept the girls quite busy. The program culminated with a special presentation on the last day of camp that showcased the highlights of the three-week adventure.
The girls also made scrapbooks containing their daily activities to serve as a souvenir of their experience. Plans are already under way for next summer so stay tuned for more information!
